Head of the Lagoon results
FOSTER CITY, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women's rowing squad won medals in both events it entered, which included a gold in the collegiate eight and a silver in the collegiate novice eight, on Saturday morning at the Head of the Lagoon.
Saturday's racing took place under ideal conditions on a five-kilometer course with a time trial format. Sacramento State competed one boat in the Collegiate Eight (10-boat field), and had one entry in the Collegiate Novice Eight (11-boat field).
The Hornets' entry in the Collegiate Eight raced to a winning time of 19:41.5, nearly 14 seconds faster than second-place Humboldt State (19:55.2). Crews from Saint Mary's, UC Davis, Sonoma State, Cal Lightweights and Chico State also competed in the event.
In the Collegiate Novice Eight, Cal won with a time of 19:16.6, and Sacramento State finished second at 22:17.5. The Hornets were nearly a minute faster than third-place UC Davis (23:12.1) and easily defeated crews from Saint Mary's, Cal Maritime, Humboldt State, Chico State and Sonoma State.
