Conference USA's All-Academic Rowing Squad
IRVING, Texas -- Sacramento State junior Alexandra Santella was one of 15 student-athletes named to the Conference USA All-Academic Rowing Team as voted on by the league's sports information directors.
The all-academic squad consists of student-athletes who have earned at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better, and are key contributors to their teams. Only 15 rowers from among Conference USA's 11 rowing members are eligible to earn the honor. Each of the 15 rowers compiled a grade point average of 3.65 or better, averaging an impressive 3.904 among the group.
That includes Santella, who currently has a 3.89 gpa as a health science major. The third-year rower and native of Stockton has competed with the varsity eight in all 10 races this spring, including five times in the seven seat, three times at bow, and twice in the four seat.
Already a recipient of Conference USA's Academic Medal and a member of the league's honor roll, Santella has now competed with the Hornets' top boat in 19 consecutive spring races dating back to last season.
She was named the varsity squad's most inspirational rower last year, was selected as a National Scholar-Athlete Award winner in 2013, and has been named to the Sacramento State Dean's Honors List all five of the semesters she's completed at the University.
The Hornets will compete in the Conference USA Rowing Championship on Saturday in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
