Complete San Diego Crew Classic results
SAN DIEGO – The Sacramento State women's varsity eight finished in a tie for sixth place at the San Diego Crew Classic's Cal Cup Grand Final on Sunday morning at Crown Point Shores Park in Mission Bay.
The Hornets placed third in their heat yesterday to advance to today's grand final, and were slotted into the fifth lane in this morning's race.
Sacramento State's 2,000-meter time of 7:05.60 was less than three seconds shy of finishing in the medals as British Columbia won the Cal Cup with a time of 6:53.92, followed by Victoria (6:56.33), Saint Mary's (7:02.94), Tulsa (7:03.76), Iowa (7:04.38), Sacramento State and Kansas State (7:05.60) and Portland (7:10.06).
The Hornets also competed a second varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four at the San Diego Crew Classic, and each of those boats finished up yesterday. The second varsity eight won its third-level final, the novice eight placed third in its petite final, and the varsity four did not qualify for a final.
Sacramento State returns to the water to host the Lake Natoma Invitational on April 12-13. The Hornets will be competing among a star-studded field of crews that includes Cal, Stanford, USC, Notre Dame, Brown, Oklahoma, Kansas and San Diego. Five of those crews are currently ranked in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Top 20 Poll, comprised of top-ranked Cal, No. 4 USC, No. 5 Brown, No. 8 Notre Dame and No. 11 Stanford.
