Smith Wins Bronze at the USRowing National Club Championships

CAMDEN, N.J. -- Sacramento State sophomore rower Jessica Smith won a bronze medal this past weekend at the USRowing Club National Championships in New Jersey's Cooper River Park.

Competing as a member of the USRowing Development Camp (Wisconsin entry), Smith's boat placed third in the Women's Intermediate Eight grand final. Sitting in the five seat, Smith helped the boat post a 2,000-meter time of 6:43.32, trailing only the Vesper Boat Club and the U.S. Junior Women's National Team.

Smith also competed in the intermediate four, and intermediate pair competitions. With the intermediate four, she sat in the three seat as the boat finished fourth in the grand final after posting the fastest heat time.

The Bakersfield, Calif., native recently completed her second season at Sacramento State where she was one of just five Hornets to compete in the team's top boat (varsity eight) in every race during the spring. She is also just a handful of rowers in school history to complete the 2,000-meter ergometer test in under seven minutes.
