As a senior (2013): Competed with the varsity eight during the boat’s first seven races of the spring, but missed the WIRA Championships and Dad Vail Regatta with injury…in those seven races with the team’s top boat, she competed at bow four times, and the four seat in three races…dating back to last year, she had competed in 19 straight races with the varsity eight until missing WIRA’s…recipient of the National Scholar-Athlete Award for the second straight year, given to rowers with a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average.

As a junior (2012): One of five members of the team to compete with the varsity eight in every spring race…sat in the three seat in the season opener, before assuming the bow seat during the boat’s final 11 races of the season…helped the varsity eight to a bronze medal at the WIRA Championships, and a sixth place showing (out of 33 entries) at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia…sat at bow in both races…competed with the novice eight in every spring race of 2011, before making the jump to the top boat this year…recipient of National Scholar-Athlete Award honors.

As a sophomore (2011): Competed with the novice eight in the seven seat of every spring race…won silver with the novice eight at the WIRA Championships, the highest finish for the boat at WIRA’s since 2005…sat at bow with the varsity four in each of the boat’s last seven races, including winning gold at the WIRA Championships…sat at bow with the second varsity four in one race as well.

Prior to Sacramento State: Attended Solano Community College in Fairfield, Calif., during the 2009-10 academic year.

High School: A 2009 graduate of Vacaville High School…spent her final two years at Vacaville after attending Port Townsend High School in Washington her first two years…a four-sport athlete, she competed in four years of basketball, and two years each of volleyball, softball and cross country…a two-time all-league selection in softball…also an all-league choice in basketball during her senior season…part of the 2007 cross country team that won the Monticello League Empire championship…a two-time scholar-athlete award winner.

Personal: Parents are Tom Sly and Diane Messner…a business major…has a personal-best time of 7:14.1 on the 2,000-meter ergometer test, the fifth fastest mark on the team…has eight siblings, including her sister, Ashley, who also competed in 2013 for the Sacramento State rowing team.
