MEN’S TENNIS IMPROVES TO 5-3 IN LEAGUE AFTER 6-1 HOME WIN OVER WEBER STATE

SACRAMENTO — Sacramento State won the doubles point, and got singles victories from Hermont Legaspi, Dom Miller, Johannes Gjerdaker, Louis Chabut and Donald Hall in a 6-1 win over Weber State on Saturday afternoon at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts. Four of the five singles wins came in straight sets.

The victory allowed the Hornets to improve to 7-11 overall and 5-3 in the Big Sky. Sacramento State moved into a tie for third place, and now sits just a half game out of second. Today was the first of just three remaining Big Sky matchups (all at home) during the regular season, and the Hornets will play again tomorrow against Idaho State.

Weber State dropped to 4-16 overall and 2-7 in league with the loss.

Sacramento State opened the match by winning the doubles points as the tandems of Mikus Losbergs/Chabut won at No. 1 by a 6-1 score, and Legaspi/Miller won at No. 3 by a 6-2 score. Losbergs/Chabut improved to 9-3 in doubles play this year, including a 6-1 record against conference opposition.

The Hornets got straight singles wins from Legaspi at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), Miller at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2), Gjerdaker at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3) and Chabut at No. 5 (6-2, 6-3). Hall won his match at No. 6 by a 5-7, 6-0, 10-7 in the super tiebreaker score. Gjerdaker is now 11-5 in singles play (6-2 in league) and Legaspi improved to 11-7 (5-3 in league).

Losbergs was the only Hornet to fall in singles when he lost at No. 1.

The Hornets' final two matchups of the regular season will come at home against conference opponents Idaho State tomorrow at 11 a.m., and Northern Colorado on April 20 at noon.
