LOSBERGS NAMED BIG SKY MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State senior Mikus Losbergs has been named the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after helping lead the Hornets to a 2-0 record last week. That included road wins on back-to-back days over Big Sky Conference opposition.

On Friday, Sacramento State won at Eastern Washington, 4-3, before returning on Saturday to beat defending Big Sky champion Idaho, 5-2.

Losbergs, a fourth-year senior and team captain, went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. Both of his singles wins came in straight sets, and he combined to lose just 11 games over those two matches. In addition, both of Losbergs' doubles wins (with teammate Louis Chabut) clinched the doubles point for the Hornets.

In Friday's win at Eastern Washington, Losbergs won at doubles by a 6-3 score, and followed that with a straight set win over Mikayel Khachatryan, 6-4, 6-0. Less than 24 hours later, the Marupe, Latvia, native won his doubles match against Idaho by a 6-4 score before beating Carlos Longhi Neto in singles play, 6-4, 6-3.

Losbergs has played all five of Sacramento State's matches this season at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Overall, he has been victorious in three of his last four singles matches.

After playing its first five matches away from home, Sacramento State (2-3, 2-0 Big Sky) is back on campus this week for a pair of matches. The Hornets will host Southern Utah on Friday at 11 a.m., and Saint Mary's on Sunday at noon.
