DAVIS, Calif. -- Eight Sacramento State men's tennis players participated in the Aggie Invitational, held over the weekend at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The event marked the second of five fall tournament in which the Hornets will compete.
In all, Sacramento State players finished with a combined 10-10 singles record, and a 5-5 doubles mark. Six of the eight Sacramento State players recorded at least one singles victory, and all eight players won at least one doubles match.
The tournament featured players from Sacramento State, UC Davis, Cal, Stanford, Nevada, Portland, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's and Pacific.
Singles play for the Hornets was highlighted by Louis Chabut's performance. Chabut, a junior from Solignac, France, went 3-1 and reached the semifinals of his draw. He defeated opponents from Saint Mary's, Portland and UC Davis before finally falling in the semis to Santa Clara's Kamran Khan by a 7-5, 6-4 score. Senior Bernardo Moraes and freshman Johannes Gjerdaker both went 2-1, as Gjerdaker won both his matches in straight sets. Seniors Dom Miller and Donald Hall, as well as freshman Abdulaziz Albayouk also posted a singles victory.
All four Hornet doubles teams were victorious in at least one match, including the combination of Hall and Gjerdaker advancing to the semifinals. The tandem easily dispatched of opponents from Pacific and UC Davis by identical 8-2 scores. In the semis, their run came to an end with an 8-4 loss to a team from Portland.
The doubles teams of Miller/Mikus Losbergs, Albayouk/Moraes, and Hermont Legaspi/Chabut each won a doubles match.
Sacramento State's results from all its singles and doubles matches can be found below. Every player on the Sacramento State roster except Josh Snowdon-Poole competed in the event.
Up next for the Sacramento State is the ITA Northwest Regionals in Seattle from Oct. 11-14. Three more fall tournaments remain for Sacramento State prior to opening the spring season on Jan. 19 at UC Davis.
