ZEMAITELIS NAMED BIG SKY MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO -- Senior Kasparas Zemaitelis was named the Big Sky Conference men's tennis player of the week after helping the Hornets to a home split with Montana (L, 4-3) and Montana State (W, 7-0) last weekend.

The Kaunas, Lithuania, native went a perfect 2-0 in singles and doubles play, and both singles wins came in straight sets. The wins in doubles play came at No. 1, and he compiled a singles victory at No. 2, and at No. 3.

The honor is the third of Zemaitelis' career, and he becomes the first Sacramento State player to receive conference player of the week accolades this season.

In Sunday's shutout of Montana State, Zemaitelis won his singles match at No. 2 by a 7-6 (2), 6-3 score, and teamed with Mikus Losbergs to win at No. 1 doubles by a 6-0 score. In Friday's loss to Montana, he won at No. 3 singles by a 6-4, 6-2 score, and posted a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

Zemaitelis now has a 5-1 singles record against Big Sky opposition, and is 4-2 in doubles in league play. Overall, he has won six of his last seven singles matches, and six of his last eight doubles matches.

Sacramento State (4-11, 3-3) concludes a three-match homestand against Big Sky schools when the Hornets welcome Portland State on Saturday at 1 p.m. All home matches this season are on campus at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts.
