SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State's Marek Marksoo, Roy Brandys, Niranjan Ram, Tom Miller, Joaquin Marquez and Oliver Andersen were each victorious in singles play as the Hornets defeated Idaho State, 7-0, in a Big Sky Conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
With the victory, the Hornets (5-10, 3-2) won their third straight conference match by a 7-0 score, which included wins over Portland State and Southern Utah. Overall, Sacramento State has won three of its last four matches after beginning the season at 2-9.
The Hornets are three matches into a season-long nine-match homestand that will last the rest of the month. With the loss, the Bengals dropped to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in the Big Sky.
The Hornets had little trouble with Idaho State, as Brandys, Ram, Miller, Marquez and Andersen each won their singles matches in straight sets. Four of those players dropped four games or less, including Brandys at No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Ram at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0), Marquez at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) and Andersen at No. 6 (6-0, 6-0).
Both Marksoo and Ram have won four straight singles matches, and Marksoo improved to 3-0 against Big Sky competition this season.
In doubles play, the Hornet tandems of Andersen/Ram (No. 1) and Brandys/Ayman Abdulwahab (No. 3) were both victorious.
Sacramento State plays a pair of non-conference home matches next week on Tuesday against Idaho and Thursday vs. UMBC. Both matches will begin at 2 p.m.
