GOLD RIVER, Calif. — Sacramento State's Roy Brandys, Marek Marksoo, Niranjan Ram, Tom Miller and Joaquin Marquez were each victorious in straight sets as the Hornets beat UC Riverside, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center.

With the victory, Sacramento State improved to 2-3 on the young season as the Hornets were playing at home for just the second time. UC Riverside dropped to 0-9 with the loss.

Brandys won at No. 1 (6-3, 6-4), Marksoo at No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Ram at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2), Miller at No. 4 (6-3, 6-4), Oliver Andersen at No. 5 (6-2, 4-6, 10-8) and Marquez at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3).

In doubles play, the Hornet duos of Miller/Marksoo won at No. 1 by a 6-2 score and Marquez teamed with Alejandro Villarreal to win at No. 3 as the Hornets claimed the doubles point.

The singles win for Miller was his fourth in a row and he improved to a team-best 4-1 this season. Marksoo, who has been battling injury all season, won his first singles match of the year.

The Hornets' match this Sunday against UC Irvine has already been canceled due to expected inclement weather, so Sacramento State will not play again until hosting UC Davis on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. The match will be played at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
