SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State men's soccer head coach Mike Linenberger announced the program's 2019 schedule today. The schedule includes 18 regular season matches, comprised of eight at home and 10 on the road. The schedule also includes two preseason exhibition matches.
Preseason play begins with two home exhibition matches, first with a contest against Sonoma State on August 22 and again on Sunday, August 25 against Santa Clara. The match on the 25th is a Hornet doubleheader as the women's team hosts Cal Poly earlier that afternoon.
The Hornets will start the regular season with back-to-back road matches at San Jose State (8/30) and Gonzaga (9/1) before returning to Hornet Field for their home opener on Sept. 6.
Sacramento State's home opener is against Air Force on Sept. 6 and is also the beginning of the Copa de Causeway, an annual tournament featuring the Hornets, UC Davis Aggies, and two additional opponents. This year, the cup includes Air Force and CSU Bakersfield. The Hornets will play the Roadrunners on Sunday, Sept. 8.
After the Copa, Sacramento State will head to southern California for two matches at Loyola Marymount (9/13) and San Diego (9/15).
Following two home matches against San Francisco on Thursday, Sept. 19 and Pacific on Sept. 22, the Hornets will head on their longest road trip of the year to take on Indiana on Friday, Sept. 27. Last season, the Hoosiers were a number two seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the 2018 Men's College Cup before falling to eventual national champion Maryland in the semifinals.
A road match at Saint Mary's on the 29th closes out September before the Hornets return home for their non-conference finale against the rival UC Davis Aggies on Oct. 5. Although the Aggies and Hornets are both members of the Big West, this first meeting is a scheduled non-conference contest.
Big West competition starts on the road as the Hornets travel to UC Santa Barbara on on Oct. 9. Their first home Big West match follows, a Saturday meeting with last year's regular season champions, UC Irvine, on Oct. 12. After another road match, this time at CSUN on Oct. 16, Sacramento State will finally play back-to-back home matches with an Oct. 19 meeting with Cal State Fullerton, and an Oct. 23 match against Cal Poly.
The Hornets close out the regular season on the road with matches, first at 2018 Big West tournament champions, UC Riverside (10/26). The team closes the regular season down the road at UC Davis on Nov. 2.
After those final two regular season matches, the Big West Tournament is scheduled to take place Nov. 6 - 16. All Big West tournament matches are hosted by the higher seeded team.
