SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State men's soccer head coach Mike Linenberger announced the program's 2018 schedule today. The schedule includes 17 regular season matches, comprised of seven at home and 10 on the road. The schedule also includes three preseason exhibition matches.
Preseason play begins with three exhibition matches, including two at home against Bethesda University on Aug. 11 and Sonoma State on Aug. 18. In between those matches, Sacramento State will play an exhibition contest at Santa Clara on Aug. 15.
The Hornets will start the regular season on the road with a big road trip through the Pacific Northwest where they will take on Portland (8/24) and Oregon State (8/27). The team will then play at CSU Bakersfield on August 31 before returning to Sacramento for their home opener.
The home opener is scheduled for Sept. 2 vs. San Jose State at Hornet Field and is one of just seven regular season home matches. Three of those seven are non-conference matches, including, in addition to San Jose State, Saint Mary's (9/14) and Gonzaga (9/20).
The 2018 schedule includes four matches against teams that finished in the top-50 in RPI last season, including at Portland (44th), at Cal (37th) on Sept. 7, at Pacific (28th) on Sept. 11, and at San Francisco (34th), on Sept. 23.
Sacramento State will face Causeway rival UC Davis twice this year. The first match, scheduled for Sept. 29, is a non-conference contest and the last match for the Hornets before the start of Big West Conference play. Their second matchup against the Aggies is Oct. 27, their final regular season match of the year.
Four of the team's seven Big West Conference matches will be at home this year, including the final two regular season matches against UC Riverside (10/20) and UC Davis.
After those final two regular season matches, the Big West Tournament is scheduled to take place Oct. 31 - Nov. 10. All Big West tournament matches are hosted by the higher seeded team.
