MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN OVERTIME TO CSU BAKERSFIELD

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's soccer team and CSU Bakersfield needed extra time to break a scoreless tie on Friday at Hornet Field. The Roadrunners broke the draw when Henry Nguyen buried a shot from the top of the box into the side netting for a 1-0 Bakersfield win.

The Hornets dropped to 0-2 on the young season. CSU Bakersfield moved to 2-1.

The game was a defensive battle as the teams combined for only four shots on goal in the 98 minutes of action. Sacramento State had a 3-0 lead on shots in the first half but was unable to put anything on goal in the period. The second half saw each team produce a little more action with the Hornets recording five shots compared to four from the Roadrunners. Each team had one shot on goal in the half.

Sacramento State had the first shot of overtime when Antonio Andres headed a ball which was saved by Detre Bell at 91:15. Neither team mustered a shot until CSUB scored the golden goal.

Matt Carnefix led Sacramento State with three shots during the game, including one goal. The team's other six shots came from six other players. Goalkeeper James Del Curto had one save in the loss.

Sacramento State will next play at San Jose State on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 3 p.m. A live video stream of the game can be seen by selecting the link on the schedule page. The Hornets return home on Friday, Sept. 8, to host San Diego at 4:30 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader which will also feature the Sacramento State women's team facing Cal at 2 p.m.
