DEL CURTO NAMED BIG WEST MEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

IRVINE, Calif. - Sacramento State junior goalkeeper James Del Curto has been named the Big West Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Del Curto was also selected as Sacramento State's Federated Insurance Student-Athlete of the Week.

Del Curto made seven saves in Sacramento State's 1-0 shutout of Loyola Marymount on Friday night in Los Angeles. He stopped five shots in the first half and two more in the second half, including a save on a scramble in the box with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation time to preserve the lead.

The junior from Santa Rosa helped the Hornets beat an LMU team that was 2-0 at home this season and 19-6-2 at home over the last four years. Hornet senior Alex Bettencourt scored the only goal of the game just three minutes into the contest before Del Curto and the Hornet defense made the goal stand up.

Del Curto led the Big West with 4.64 saves per game last season and is currently second in the league with 4.67 saves per game this year. He did not play in Sacramento State's game at San Diego on Sunday.

The Hornets play their first home game of 2016 on Thursday hosting Portland at 4:30 p.m.
