BELL, TANIHANA SHOOT 69 IN FINAL ROUND OF KA'ANAPALI COLLEGIATE CLASSIC

LAHAINA, Hawaii —The Sacramento State men's golf team closed out its fall schedule with a 4-over par round of 288 on Sunday at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. The Hornets finished 12th with a three-round total of 286-276-288-850.

Riley Bell and Jonathan Tanihana tied for the team lead in the final round as each shot 69 to finish 2-under park. Bell started on the eighth hole and dropped below par with a birdie on the par-4 11th. After bogeys on the par-4 13th and 18th took him to 1-over, Bell birdied the par-5 first to get back to even. A bogey on the par-4 third again moved him to 1-over where he stayed through the fifth hole. Bell then birdied the par-5 sixth and ended his tournament with an eagle on the par-4 seventh.

Tanihana was 1-over through his first four holes with a birdie on the par-4 first and bogeys on Nos. 18 and 2. He dropped below par with an eagle on the par-5 sixth and eventually moved to 3-under with birdies on the par-5 ninth and par-4 12th. The junior stayed at 3-under until a bogey on the par-4 16th which was his final hole.

Ethan Davidson had the highest finish on the team, tying for 46th place. Davidson shot 70 on Sunday with a team-high six birdies. He got off to a great start with four birdies over his first six holes. A double bogey on Nos. 13 and a bogey on No. 14 moved him to 1-under before he parred his next four holes. Davidson dropped to 3-under with birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 but ended his day with a double bogey on the par-5 sixth.

Casey Leebrick shot 74 to rank third among the Hornets in the lineup during the day. Leebrick was 4-under through his first nine holes as the sophomore birdied Nos. 9. 11, 14 and 17. His round turned with bogeys on Nos. 1 and 3 and he moved to 2-over with a quadruple bogey on the par-4 fifth. He birdied the par-5 sixth but ended with a double bogey on No. 7 and a par on eight.

Joe Fowler shot 75 and Jeff Carr had a round of 78 to complete the team. Fowler had three birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. Carr had a birdie, six bogeys and a double bogey.

Fifth-ranked Oklahoma won the team title by five strokes after shooting 805. Washington (810), UCLA (817), Georgia (819) and South Carolina (820) completed the top five.

The individual title was decided in a playoff where Trent Phillips of Georgia edged Quade Cummins of Oklahoma. The pair were seven strokes better than the next closest golfer.
