DAVIDSON, LEEBRICK SHOOT EVEN PAR IN FINAL ROUND OF VISIT STOCKTON PACIFIC INVITATIONAL

STOCKTON, Calif. — Casey Leebrick and Ethan Davidson both closed the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational with even par rounds of 72 to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team. The Hornets remained in ninth place with a three-day total of 288-292-291 to finish 7-over par.

San Jose State claimed the team title with a three-stroke victory over No. 5 BYU. The Spartans shot 282-281-285-848 and were 16-under. The remainder of the top five was comprised of Nevada (853), Santa Clara (854) and Long Beach State (856).

Davidson had the highest overall finish among Sacramento State with a tie for 15th place. On Wednesday, he bogeyed the par-5 second hole and before falling back to even with a birdie on the par-5 sixth. Davidson made the turn at 1-over with a bogey on No. 9 but immediately answered with a birdie on the par-4 10th. After bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13 took him to 2-over, Davidson rallied with birdies on the par-5 16th and par-4 18th.

Leebrick had two bogeys and a birdie on the front nine to leave him at 1-over. He birdied the par-5 11th and par-4 12th to get to 1-under. After a bogey and birdie on Nos. 15 and 16, respectively, he wrapped up his round with a par on No. 17 and a bogey on the par-4 18th. Leebrick shot 75-73-72-220 to tie for 46th overall.

Joe Fowler added a round of 73 and tied for 28th overall. Fowler was 2-over through his first three holes but was able to maintain that score through the remainder of the front nine with a birdie on the par-5 fifth and a birdie on the par-5 ninth. On the back side of the course, Fowler carded an early birdie on the par-5 11th but then bogeyed Nos. 12 and 15 to move to 3-over. He eagled the par-5 16th to get back to 1-over and ended with two pars.

Jeff Carr shot 74 to account for the final score towards the team total. Carr bogeyed the first two holes of the day and then parred 12 in a row. He bogeyed the par-3 15th before a birdie on the par-5 16th. Carr tied for 63rd at 72-79-74-225.

Josh Diaz was the only member of the team to birdie the first hole and was even through the first nine holes to lead the team. Diaz bogeyed the par-4 14th but remained at 1-over through 16 holes. However, he posted back-to-back double bogeys on the final two holes to finish at 5-over.

Riley Bell, who shot 72 on Tuesday, ended the tournament with a round of 79. Bell, who was competing as an individual, had an eagle, two birdies, eight bogeys and a triple bogey.

Sacramento State will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule next week when it competes at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course on Nov. 1-3.
