MEN'S GOLF LED BY FOWLER, DAVIDSON IN SECOND ROUND OF VISIT STOCKTON PACIFIC INVITE

STOCKTON, Calif. — Joe Fowler shot 71 and Ethan Davidson had an even par round of 72 for the best scores on the Sacramento State men's golf team during the second round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Tuesday. The Hornets shot 292 as a team during the round and fell to ninth place. The tournament will conclude with a single round on Wednesday.

Fowler was bogey free on the front nine with birdies on the par-4 fifth and ninth holes along with seven pars. He kept that streak going until back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 13 and 14 took returned him to even. A birdie on the par-5 16th dropped him back into the red and he stayed there for the remainder of the round. He has shot 73-71-144 and is tied for 23rd.

Davidson is tied for ninth place at 2-under par (70-72-142). On Tuesday, he opened play with a birdie on the par-5 first and continued to improve that score with birdies on the par-4 third and par-5 sixth. He made the turn at 1-under after bogeys on Nos. 7 and 9. Davidson birdied the par-5 11th to get back to 2-under but followed that hole with a double bogey on the par-4 12th before six straight pars ended his round.

Casey Leebrick ranked third on the team during the second round with a 1-over par round of 73. Leebrick was 1-under through seven holes with a birdie on the par-4 third. He had consecutive bogeys on Nos. 8 and 9 but followed with back-to-back birdies on the par-4 10th and par-5 11th to get back to 1-under. He was 2-over on his final seven holes with five pars and bogeys on Nos. 13 and 15.

Josh Diaz also got off to a strong start, playing the front nine at 2-under with birdies on the second and sixth holes. Diaz started the back side of the course with a bogey and then bogeyed Nos. 13, 14 and 15 to move to 2-over. He steadied himself with a birdie on the par-5 16th before ending his day with a triple bogey on the par-4 18th.

Jeff Carr followed his opening round of 72 with a 79 on Tuesday. Carr had one birdie, six bogeys and a double bogey during the day.

Riley Bell, who is playing as an individual, moved into a tie for 50th after shooting 76-72-148. Bell started on the 10th hole and birdied the par-5 11th to get to 1-under. After bogeys on Nos. 14 and 16 he moved to 1-over where he remained until a bogey on the par-4 fifth. The sophomore then eagled the 540-yard, par-5 sixth to get back to even and parred his final three holes.

The Hornets will start the final round off the first tee beginning at 7:54 a.m. at The Reserve at Spanos Park. The team will play with Grand Canyon and CSUN.
