MEN'S GOLF TIED FOR THIRD AFTER FIRST ROUND OF VISIT STOCKTON PACIFIC INVITE

STOCKTON, Calif. — Ethan Davidson shot a 2-under par round of 70 and the Sacramento State men's golf team is in third place following the first round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Sacramento State had six golfers during the day, including one individual. Each of those golfers shot between 70 and 76 with the team counting four scores ranging between 70-73. The Hornets' even par team score of 288 leaves them only trailing San Jose State (282) and 35th-ranked Long Beach State (286). Sacramento State is chased by three teams which are tied for fourth place and just one stroke back.

Davidson played the back nine at 3-under par with the help of an eagle on the 535-yard, par-5 16th. He also had birdies on the par-5 11th and par-4 18th as well as a bogey. He bogeyed the par-5 second hole to take him to 2-under but ended there are a birdie on the par-4 fifth and a bogey on NO. 6 as well as five pars. His score ties him for seventh place but is six strokes off the lead.

Jeff Carr is tied for 14th with an even par round of 72. Carr parred his first six holes before a birdie on No. 16. He had just two pars on the front nine and dropped as low as 2-under following birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-5 sixth. However, he ended his round with bogeys on Nos. 7 and 9.

Joe Fowler and Josh Diaz were both 1-over par and are tied for 25th. Fowler was the only Sacramento State golfer to open with a birdie on the par-4 10th. That was followed by a double bogey on the next hole and he then parred his next 10 holes. Fowler got back to even with a birdie on the par-3 fourth but, once, again, immediately bogeyed No. 5 before four more pars. Diaz was 4-over through his first five holes but played his final 14 at 3-under. Over his final nine holes (Nos. 1-9), Diaz had birdies on the par-4 first and seventh and par-3 fourth without a bogey.

Casey Leebrick completed the lineup with a 75. Leebrick was 2-over at the midway point of his round with a pair of bogeys. His first birdie came on the par-4 first but he got to 4-over after a bogey on No. 2 and a double bogey on No. 4. He was 1-under over the final five holes with a birdie on the par-5 sixth and four pars.

Riley Bell competed as an individual and shot 76. Bell parred his first six holes, jumped to 1-under with a birdie on the par-5 16th, before a triple bogey on No. 18. He was 1-over after a birdie-bogey-birdie stretch on Nos. 4-6. He ended his round with a double bogey on No. 17 and a bogey on 18.

Sacramento State will return for the second round on Tuesday where the team will play with San Jose State and Long Beach State. The first group will go off the first hole beginning at 9:24 a.m.
