SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Joe Fowler and Josh Diaz both finished the first two rounds of the Bill Cullum Invitational at 1-under par to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team on Monday. The pair are tied for 27th overall and the Hornets are in eighth place heading into the third round on Tuesday.

Fowler and Diaz each shot 70 in the morning round and followed with a 1-over par round of 73. Fowler bogeyed his first two holes of the day (Nos. 5 and 6) but quickly moved back to even with birdies on the par-3 seventh and par-4 ninth. A bogey on the par-4 10th took him over par for the final time. He added birdies on the par-4 12th and par-5 15th. After a bogey on the 16th, he eagled the 521-yard, par-5 18th to drop to 2-under. Fowler closed his round with a pair of pars and a birdie on the par-5 second.

Diaz started on the seventh hole and birdied the par-4 eighth. He stayed at 1-under until an eagle on the 537-yard, par-5 15th. Bogeys on the par-4 16th and par-5 18th took him back to 1-under. He birdied the par-5 second and had five pars over his last six holes.

In the second round, Fowler parred his first 10 holes before a double bogey on the par-5 15th. After four more pars, he birdied the par-5 second and ended with two more pars. Diaz fluctuated between 1-over and 1-under during his second round. He had birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 and bogeys on Nos. 9, 18 and 5.

Casey Leebrick is tied for 55th overall at 72-76-148. Leebrick had four bogeys over his first seven holes of the first round. He then played his final 11 holes at 4-under with birdies on the par-3 17th, par-5 18th, par-4 fourth and par-5 sixth. Leebirck started the second round with a birdie which was immediately followed by a double bogey on the par-4 eighth. After moving to 3-over, he birdied the par-5 15th. However, he played the final nine holes at 2-over with a birdie on the par-4 first and three bogeys.

Eric Olsem is one stroke back of Leebrick and tied for 62nd place. Olsem was 1-over in the first round. His first round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 15th and an eagle on the par-5 18th. Olsem's second round was comprised of four birdies, four bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.

Christian James and Jonathan Tanihana each shot 75-76-151 and are tied for 71st. James had three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey in the opening round. He followed that with three birdies, three bogeys and a pair of double bogeys. Tanihana had a birdie on the par-4 fourth and four bogeys in the first round. In the afternoon he carded two birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.

Riley Bell, who like Taniaha was playing as an individual, shot 77-78-155. His first round was comprised of three birdies, two bogeys and three double bogeys.Bell led the team with five birdies in the second round but also had three bogeys, three double bogeys and a triple bogey.

San Diego State scorched the course during the opening day bu shooting 267-279-546 to open a 17-stroke lead. The Aztecs were led by Puwit Anupansuebsai who shot 63-66-129 to lead all individuals by five strokes.

The final round will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. where Sacramento State will play with Weber State, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine.
