LEEBRICK LEADS THE WAY FOR MEN'S GOLF WITH A ROUND OF 70

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Casey Leebrick continued his hot start to the 2019-20 season as he shot a 2-under par round of 70 and is tied for 10th place following the second round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Monday.

Leebrick, who transferred to Sacramento State from York College (Pa.), carded five birdies during the round and was never more than 1-over par during the day. He opened play with a par on the 10th hole and moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par-4 11th. He had bogeys on Nos. 12 and 14 to move him to 1-over but returned to even with a birdie on the par-4 16th. Following two pars, Leebrick's last bogey of the round came on the par-4 first hole. He stayed at 1-over until a birdie on the par-3 fifth and then dropped into the red with a birdie on the par-5 sixth. He ended his round with pars on Nos. 7 and 8 and a birdie on the par-5 ninth.

Unfortunately for Sacramento State, Leebrick's score led the team by six strokes. Jeff Carr shot 76 for the second best total and is tied for 45th place overall. Carr had 14 pars during his round along with four bogeys. He was 3-over on the back nine with bogeys on Nos. 10, 13 and 17. He was 1-over on holes Nos. 1-9 after eight pars and a bogey on No. 2.

Christian James is tied for 77th place with rounds of 75-78-153. James bogeyed Nos. 11 and 12 before making the turn at 1-over with the help of a birdie on the par-5 15th. He started the front nine with a double bogey on the par-4 first and had three more bogeys during the round.

JC transfer Jonathan Tanihana shot 79 and is tied for 81st place. Tanihana had a birdie on the par-5 15th but was plagued by three double bogeys and a pair of bogeys. Ethan Davidson rounded out the lineup after shooting 82. Davidson had three birdies over his final five holes but also had eight bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey.

Ball State opened up a double-digit lead in the team standings. The Cardinals were 7-under par during the day and are 16-under for the tournament. Arkansas State ranks second at 5-under while Campbell is 2-under.

The third round will be a shot gun start at 7 a.m. PT. The Hornets will start on holes 16, 17 and 18 and will be paired with individuals.
