CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Casey Leebrick led Sacramento State in his first career round as a Hornet, shooting 72 in the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sunday at Cedar Rapids Country Club.

Overall, the team totaled 295 and is tied for 13th place. Ball State leads the 16-team field with a 279 and is four strokes ahead of Iowa which sits in second place.

Leebrick, who transferred from York College (Pa.), started on No. 10 and had seven pars, a bogey and birdie over his first nine holes. He bogeyed the par-5 first before birdies on the par-4 second and par-5 sixth dropped him to even par. Leebrick bogeyed the par-4 seventh but closed with a birdie on the par-5 ninth to finish even.

Carr was even through eight holes but made the turn at 2-over after a double bogey on the par-4 18th. He fell back to even after birdies on the first and third holes and ended 1-over with a bogey on the par-3 fifth.

James had the best score on the team through the midway point of the first round as he was 1-under with a birdie on the 10th and eight pars. He started the front nine with a birdie to move to 2-under but finished at 4-over after bogeys on Nos. 2, 4, and 8 and a double bogey on par-4 seventh.

Davidson was 1-over on the back nine as he placed a birdie on the par-5 15th inside bogeys on both sides. After pars and Nos. 1 and 2, he bogeyed the par-4 third and fourth to stand at 3-over. Davidson closed his round with a birdie, a bogey and three pars over his final five holes.
