STOCKTON, Calif. — Joe Fowler shot a 2-under par round of 69 and Jeff Carr added a 70 to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team in the second round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite on Friday at Stockton Country Club. The Hornets shot 287 as team during the second round to finish at 3-over par. Overall, Sacramento State is even through two rounds and sits in eighth place.

Fowler started his round with a birdie on the par-4 first hole but then had bogeys on Nos. 3, 4 and 8 to take him to 2-over. From there, the freshman caught fire with three consecutive birdies. He started on No. 10 and followed with a tap-in birdie on the par-3 11th. Fowler kept the streak going with a birdie on the par-4 12th. After three pars, he birdied the par-5 16th and ended with two additional pars. Fowler played the back side of the course at 4-under par.

Carr was 3-over after four holes with a bogey on No. 3 and a double bogey on the par-4 fourth. He steadied his round with pars on the next four holes and began his move with a birdie on the par-4 ninth. Carr also attacked the pin on No. 11 for a birdie and added two more on Nos. 13 and 14 to drop him to 1-under. A bogey on the par-3 15th returned him to even before he wrapped up the day with a birdie on the par-4 18th.

Landon Azevedo has the highest overall placement on the team through the first two rounds and is tied for 31st. Azevedo followed his round of 69 on Thursday with a 73 on Friday. He had a double bogey on the par-5 second and made the turn at 1-over after a birdie on the par-4 fourth and six pars, including a couple of saves on Nos. 7 and 8. He eventually dropped to 1-under after birdies on the par-4 10th and 11th and par-5 14th. However, he bogeyed three of his final four holes to close at 2-over par.

The final score towards the team total came from Ethan Davidson. The freshman was even on the front side of the course with a birdie on No. 1 and a bogey on No. 9. Eric Olsem, who led the team with a career best 67 on Thursday, shot 76 on Friday. Olsem traded bogeys and birdies on the first four holes and was 2-over at the midway point of his round after bogeys on the par-4 seventh and par-3 eighth. Four straight pars kept him there but were trailed by bogeys on Nos. 14, 15 and 18.
