MEN'S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH AT BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIP

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — The Sacramento State men's golf team wrapped up its 2017-18 season on Sunday following the third round of the Big Sky Championship at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Hornets finished in fifth place after shooting 297-294-296-887 during the tournament.

Northern Colorado earned the automatic berth to an NCAA Regional by winning the team title. The Bears finished the three-round event at 10-under par and held off Southern Utah on Sunday. UNC was 4-under during the final round while the T-Birds were 6-under.

Wonje Choi led Sacramento State on Sunday with an even par round of 72. Choi parred his first three holes before bogeys on Nos. 4 and 5. He bounced back to make the turn at even par following birdies on the par-4 sixth and seventh. He was never more than 1-over on the back nine as he had a pair of bogeys and birdies . Choi tied for 18th place overall with a 54-hole total of 74-77-72-223.

Jeff Carr had the highest finish among Sacramento State golfers as the freshman tied for 12th place with rounds of 76-72-73-221. On Sunday, Carr got off to a great start with birdies on the par-5 second and fifth as well as the par-4 seventh. He had only one bogey over his first nine holes and was 2-under at the midway point of his round. His final nine holes consisted of six pars and bogeys on Nos. 12, 17 and 18.

Ash Patel shot 75 in the final round and matched Choi's total of 223 to tie for 18th place. Patel was even on the front nine with birdies on the par-5 fifth and par-4 sixth accompanying a pair of bogeys. His back nine featured a birdie on the par-5 16th and four bogeys.

Senior Zach Liberatore shot 76 for the final score toward the team total in the third round. Liberatore opened play with a double bogey but immediately answered with a birdie on the par-5 second. Hen parred his next five holes but was 2-over through nine. He started the back nine with five consecutive pars before alternating bogeys and pars over the final four holes.

Eric Olsem wrapped up the tournament with a round of 80. Olsem had a birdie on the par-4 ninth three bogeys and three double bogeys.

Andrew Romano of Northern Colorado defeated Southern Utah's Fidel Concepcion in a playoff to become the medalist. Romano totaled 70-67-71-208 in the tournament and was the only player in the field to break par in all three rounds.
