SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team opened play at the MacKenzie Match Play on Monday with a pair of matchups. The Hornets fell 5-0 to Wyoming in the first round and trailed Cal State Monterey Bay in the second round before play was stopped due to rain at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
In the first match, Wyoming never trailed in any of the five matches. Drew McCullough defeated Ash Patel, 8&7. Patel was all square through three holes before losing eight consecutive holes. Mudrock took the lead for good on the fifth hole and put the match out of reach with wins on the 12th and 13th holes.
The closest match of the day came at No. 3 where Quintin Pope earned a 2&1 win over Eric Olsem. The Cowboys again jumped out to a 1-up lead on the first hole before Olsem won the third hole to make it all square. The lead swung back to Pope on the fourth hole and he held a 1-up advantage until Olsem won the 10th hole. From there, Pope won the 11th, 12th and 13th to go 3-up. Olsem began a comeback with a win on his 15th hole but shared the 16th to end the match.
Glenn Workman defeated Devyn Fitchhorn 7&6 at No. 4. After splitting the first hole, Workman was 4-up through nine. He won the first three holes on the back nine to secure the win.

The duo each had pars on the first two holes before Svard won the third hole. The score remained the same through five holes but stretch to 3-up in favor of Svard with wins on the sixth and seventh.
Edward Hackett holds a 4-up lead over Carr through nine holes. The pair shared the first hole before Hackett won four of the next five. Carr got one back with a win on No. 7 but bogeyed the ninth compared to a par from Hackett.
Fitchhorn leads Maximilian Grieb 1-up through five holes. The match has swung back in forth as Fitchhorn won the first hole and then lost the next two to fall 1-down. The sophomore won the fourth and fifth to retake a 1-up lead.
Liberatore and Kirabo Reed have also seen momentum turn in their match. Liberatore parred the first two holes to take a 2-up lead but saw it evaporate as Reed won the next five holes.
