DAVIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team finished in fifth place at the El Macero Invitational on Sunday. The team was led by junior Owen Taylor who finished tied for sixth place.

The Hornets shot 303 in the final round and dropped from third to fifth. Host UC Davis went wire-to-wire for the victory and finished with a three-round total of 856. The Aggies were trailed by Cal State Fullerton (872), Grand Canyon (882), Nevada (885) and Sacramento State (886) in the top five.

Taylor earned his sixth top 10 finish of the season and his third consecutive. The junior has finished in the top 13 in each of his last seven events. On Sunday, Taylor began with a birdie on the first hole but immediately ran into trouble with a double bogey on the second and bogeys on Nos. 3 and 4. Another bogey on the par-4 sixth placed him at 4-over where he remained until a birdie on the par-4 ninth. He parred his next five holes and added a birdie on the par-4 15th and par-5 18th.

Senior Jordan Weir posted the second lowest score of the day for the Hornets with a 2-over par 74. Weir also birdied the first hole and followed with five pars before a bogey on the par-3 seventh took him back to even. A bogey on No. 9 and a birdie on the par-4 10th were followed by four more pars. Weir double bogeyed No. 15, bogeyed the 16th, birdied the par-4 17th and parred No. 18 to end his round. Overall, he tied for 41st with a 54-hole total of 229.

Freshman Robert Parden tied for 13th after shooting 72-73-77-222. On Sunday, Parden birdied the first hole but played the rest of the front nine at 4-over. He bogeyed two of the first four holes on the back nine to move to 5-over before a birdie on No. 15. After two pars he bogeyed the par-5 18th.

Luke Kristo shot 79 during the final round to finish tied for 27th (72-75-79-226). Kristo was 5-over through his first six holes with two pars, three bogeys and a double bogey. He remained there until a bogey on No. 11 and a double bogey on the par-3 12th took him to 8-over. A birdie and bogey on the next two holes and two pars kept him there until he birdied the par-4 17th.

Cody Bates completed the lineup with rounds of 72-74-82-282 which tied him for 38th place. Bates' final round was comprised of six bogeys and two double bogeys.

Sacramento State will wrap up its regular season at the America Sky Championships beginning on Friday at the Greenhorn Creek Resort in Angels Camp, Calif.
