MEN'S GOLF IN EIGHTH AFTER FIRST DAY OF SACRAMENTO STATE INVITATIONAL

ELK GROVE, Calif. — Hornet senior Jordan Swanson shot 69 in the second round of the Sacramento State Invitational to match the best score of the day. Unfortunately for Sacramento State, Swanson is competing as an individual and his score did not count towards the team total.

Overall, Swanson is tied for fifth place and is four strokes behind Loyola Marymount's Lawrence Ree for the individual lead. Ree, who is also competing as an individual, shot 70-70-140.

As a team, the Hornets are in eighth place after rounds of 298-300-598. LMU rallied for the lead behind a strong second round. The Lions totaled 291-284-575 and have a four stroke lead over Northern Colorado (283-296). The rest of the top five is comprised of Chico State (580), Nevada (587) and Southern Utah (590).

Swanson's first round began with a bogey and birdie on holes Nos. 18 and 1. He remained even through the seventh holes but bogeyed Nos. 8, 13 and 15 to finish at 3-over. In the second round, he again birdied No. 18 and dropped to 2-under with a birdie on the par-5 fifth. After a bogey, birdie and par, he birdied the par-5 eighth to move to 3-under. He used two birdies, five pars and two bogeys over his final nine holes to shoot 69. The score was a career best for the Elk Grove, Calif., native who was playing on his home course.

Among the players in the lineup, Owen Taylor shot 75-72-147 and is tied for 16th place. Taylor had a birdie on the par-5 13th, 14 pars, two bogeys and a double bogey in the morning round. He used two birdies, 14 pars and two bogeys to finish even in the afternoon

On the back half of the course, he had six pars, two bogeys and a double bogey. During the second round, Weir was 1-under through his first seven holes. However, he bogeyed four of his next seven holes.
