SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The second annual Sacramento State Invitational will take place on Mon.-Tue., March 3-4, at Valley Hi Country Club. The first day will consist of 36 holes beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The third round will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday with teams starting on the first and 10th tees. The tournament is presented by Shingle Springs Honda and is free to the public.

Twelve teams are set to compete with schools from California, Nevada, Idaho, Nebraska and British Columbia.

Last year's tournament was won by UC Santa Barbara which finished the three-round event at 11-under par. UCSB's Glen Schur was the medalist after shooting 67-70-71-208.

Sacramento State enters the tournament having placed among the top three in four of its six tournaments this year. The Hornets have finished second in both the Anteater Invitational and Folino Invitational during the spring porition of its schedule. This week, Sacramento State's lineup will feature Owen Taylor, Jordan Weir, Robert Parden, Riley Hayfield and Cody Bates. The team will also have Alex Gibbs, Luke Kristo and Jordan Swanson competing as individuals.

Boise State began its spring schedule on Feb. 10-11 at the Thunderbird Invitational where it placed thid after finishing a 7-over par. Sophomore Logan France and junior Ty Travis earned Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Week honors after each tied for third at the tournament. During the fall, the Broncos were the team champion at the Utah Invitaitonal in Park City, Utah.

British Columbia has competed in just four tournaments this season but boast a victory at the Western Washington Invitational in late September. The Thunderbirds most recently competed at the Folino Invitaitonal where they placed fourth. Conner Kozak led the team with an 11th-place finish at the event.

CSU Bakersfield has competed in five tournaments this season, including the Folino Invitational on Feb. 17-18. Chase Goodvin made his season debut at the tournament where he tied for fifth place. Trevor Stan and Dylan Lym have each recorded a round of 69 this season.

Chico State began its spring season by winning the Coyote Classic at Arrowhead CC. The victory was the second of the season for the Wildcats who also won at the Interwest Insurance Classic. Alistair Docherty leads the team with an average of 72.71 and has three top 10 finishes. Lee Gearhart was the medalist at the Coyote Classic after shooting 71-70-68-209.

Loyola Marymount has back-to-back top 10 finishes this spring, including a third-place showing at The Farms Collegiate. Tyler Torano and Connor Campbell are leading the team with averages of 73.5 and 73.8, respectively. Torano was fifth at the Saint Mary's Invitational and most recently shot 3-under par at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

Nebraska Omaha was victorious at the Carlton Oaks WIU Invitational on Feb. 10-11 in San Diego. That performance, which was the first of the spring for the Mavericks, followed a runner-up finish at their own invitational in the fall. Karl Krieser leads the team with an average of 76.5 and has two top 10 finishes this year.

Nevada is the highest ranked team in the field. The Wolf Pack have four players averaging better than 74 led by Nicholas Smith (72.76). Freshman Rhyne Jones is the reigning Mountain West Golfer of the Week after tying for fourth at the John Burn's Intercollegiate. Jones shot 69 and 71 in the first two rounds before the tournament was halted due to weather.

Northern Colorado will be competing for the first time this spring at the Sacramento State Invitational. The Bears' best finish of the fall wa a third-place showing at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. Ben Krueger placed second at that tournament at 70-69-70-209. UNC's roster also features former Hornet and McClatchy HS graduate Julian Woodfork.

Pacific continues a busy spring as this tournament will be the team's fourth of the year. The Tigers' top finish came at the Stars and Stripes Invitational in West Point, N.Y., where they were fourth. Byron Meth leads the squad wtih an average of 72.60. Meth was sixth at the Stars and Stripes for the top individual finish for Pacific this year.

Sacramento State tied for second at the Anteater Invitational and was second at the Folino Invitational in its two spring tournaments. Owen Taylor is on pace to destroy the single-season record as he is averaging 71.11 in 18 rounds this season. Taylor has three top-three finishes, including a tie for second at the Folino where he shot 74-70-70-214. Jordan Weir (73.08 average) was fourth in that same tournament and is the defending America West medalist.

Southern Utah will be making its third appearance of the spring. The Thunderbirds most recently finished 21st out of 23 teams. Sammy Cole leads SUU with an average of 72.5. Cole shot 68 at the Dash Thomas Memorial for the low on the team this year. He and Jake Holt have both finished third this season.

Weber State began its spring schedule by finishing eighth at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational. Freshman Alex Herzog guided the team in the two-round tournament by shooting 77-73-150.
