Men's Golf

Fort Collins, Colo. — Freshman Robert Parden shot a 1-over par round of 71 and recorded the lowest round of the day for the Sacramento State men's golf team on Tuesday at the Ram Masters Invitational.

Parden was able to get out to a strong start, birdying three of his first seven holes. He began the day with a birdie on the par-5 first and later added birdies on the par-4 fourth and par-5 seventh. A double-bogey  on the par-4 eighth and a bogey on the par-4 10th returned him to even. He then birdied the par-4 11th to drop to 1-under and record his final birdie of the day. Parden closed the round with five pars over the final seven holes to accompany a pair of bogeys (Nos. 13 and 17).

Junior Luke Kristo shot 72 in the third round and finished the tournament in 10th place with a total of 67-71-72-210. His total is tied for the sixth-best 54-hole score in school history and comes just a week after he shot 208. Kristo was 2-under at the turn with birdies on Nos. 5 and 8. However, he played the back nine at 4-over with a birdie, three pars and five bogeys.

Owen Taylor added a round of 73 and finished tied for 13th place. Taylor birdied his first and last holes of the day and had 11 pars and five bogeys scattered amongst the middle 16 holes.

Freshman Cody Bates added the final score towards Tuesday's team total. Bates shot 75 and finished tied for 64th with a total of 227. Senior Jordan Weir (75-75-77) also shot 227.

Denver rallied to win the team title, defeating host Colorado State by one stroke (847-848). The Pioneers shot 8-under (272) during the final round to make up an 11-stroke deficit. The Hornets finished in 10th place with a total of 288-292-291-871.
