WILLIAMS SHOOTS 70 TO OPEN LONE STAR INVITATIONAL

SAN ANTONIO — Led by Ryan Williams' 2-under par round of 70, the Sacramento State men's golf team is in sixth place following the first round of the Lone Star Invitational on Sunday at Hill Country Resort Golf Club. The three-round tournament will continue on Monday before concluding on Tuesday.

Williams continued his strong start to the season with four birdies and just two bogeys in his round. The Clovis, Calif., native opened with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole and later birdied the par-5 15th. He eventually moved to 3-under with a birdie on the par-4 1st. Consecutive bogeys on Nos. 3 and 4 were his lone miscues of the day. After two pars, he birdied the par-4 7th and ended with two more pars.

Williams' round tied for the third-lowest of his career and ties him for fourth place in the field. He has led Sacramento State in each tournament this season, including a tie for fourth place at the Saint Mary's Invitational.

Jordan Swanson is tied for 11th place after shooting an even-par round of 72. Swanson was 2-under at the turn with birdies on Nos. 15 and 17 (both par 5). A triple-bogey on the par 5 4th hole disrupted his round before he returned to even with a birdie on No. 7. Swanson also had 14 pars en route to his second best round as a Hornet.

Jordan Weir shot 75 and is tied for 39th. Weir began slowly, bogeying three of his first four holes before birdying the par-4 14th. After seven consecutive pars, three consecutive bogeys took him to 5-over with three holes to play. Birdies on the par-4 7th and the par-3 8th and a par on No. 9 closed out his round.

Owen Taylor provided the final score towards the team total with a round of 78. The sophomore was 7-over after nine holes with four pars, three bogeys and two double-bogeys slowing him down. Taylor was 1-under on the front nine of the course with birdies on the par-5 4th and the par-3 8th to go along with six pars and a bogey.

Eric Taylor carded a round of 81. Taylor had 11 pars, five bogeys and two double-bogyes.

North Texas leads the team standings with a score of 284. The Mean Green are followed by Denver (287) and host UTSA (290). Sacramento State is 11 strokes back of North Texas in sixth place.

Rodolfo Cazaubon of North Texas has a 1-stroke advantage over a pair of golfers for the individual lead. Williams is one of three golfers tied for fourth place.
