ROAD TO RENO PRIZE PACKAGE TO BE GIVEN AWAY AT SATURDAY'S MBB GAME

RENO, Nev. – For the first time, all 24 Big Sky Conference basketball teams will play for a berth in the NCAA Tournament when they meet for the conference championship March 7-12 in Reno, Nev. Sacramento State and conference officials are hopeful that fans will make the short two-hour drive to the "Biggest Little City" to cheer on the Hornets.

Fans at three upcoming Hornets games will have the chance to win a prize package to attend the tournaments, including all-session passes and hotel accommodations at Eldorado Reno. Winners will be selected during the men's games against Portland State this Saturday, Montana State on Feb. 6, and the women's game against Idaho State on Feb. 13.

The neutral-site venue is brand new to the Big Sky. For over 20 years, the conference's regular season champion was selected as host and the number of participants in the championship was limited. Starting this year, tournament games will instead be played at the Reno Events Center, which accommodates roughly 5,000 fans in basketball configuration. In recent years, the tournaments have instead been held in distant communities like Grand Forks, N.D. and Missoula, Mont.

The conference announced in 2014 that it would accept bids from cities interested in hosting the championships. "Reno, as a city, and the folks that we worked with, did a spectacular job in representing their community," said Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton. "The coaches and the fans attending are going to feel very good about coming to Reno."
