SACRAMENTO STATE TO HOST 2017 NCAA MEN’S TOURNEY 1ST AND 2ND ROUNDS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State, in conjunction with the Sacramento Convention & Visitor's Bureau, the Sports Commission and the Kings, will host first and second round play in the 2017 NCAA Div. I Men's Basketball Championship, March 17 and 19, 2017. The event will be held at the new downtown Entertainment and Sports Center, scheduled to open in the fall of 2016.

"We are excited to see the return of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship to Sacramento," Sacramento State Interim Athletics Director Bill Macriss said. "An event of this magnitude requires a strong collaborative effort and we look forward to partnering with the Sacramento Convention & Visitor's Bureau, the Sports Commission and the Kings. The men's basketball tournament is the NCAA's marquee event and hosting first and second round action will bring national attention to this great city and region."

The city will welcome eight teams in first and second round action with four games taking place on Thursday and two on Saturday. Sacramento last served as an NCAA men's basketball postseason site (first and second rounds) in 2007, which took place at the Sleep Train Arena.

"We are very excited about today's announcement that the city will be a host site for the first and second round of the 2017 NCAA men's basketball tournament," Sacramento State President Dr. Alexander Gonzalez said. "We look forward to our role as the hosting university."

Fans from all over the country will head to Sacramento for the tournament to support their teams as they look to advance to the Sweet 16. Visitors, as well as local and regional NCAA fans attending the games, will find the city offers plenty of off-court action during tournament time as well, resulting in an economic impact of an estimated $4 million for the city according to Mike Sophia, Director of the Sacramento Sports Commission.
