After opening the conference season with four straight road games, Sacramento State (5-8, 1-3) finally returns home to face Portland State (6-7, 1-3) this Thursday, Jan. 16…tip-off at The Nest is set for 7:05 p.m…the Hornets concluded the road trip on Saturday with a 77-49 win at Southern Utah, the largest margin of victory in a road game during the program's Div. I era (1991-pres.)…although Sacramento State is 1-3 in league play, the Hornets are the only team in the conference that had to play its first four games on the road…Big Sky teams are now 5-17 in league road games thus far…the Hornets will now play six of their next eight conference games at home, and 10 of their last 16 overall will come inside the friendly confines of The Nest…the Hornets are looking to improve their conference record for the fifth straight year (1-15 in 2008-09, 3-13 in 2009-10, 4-12 in 2010-11, 5-11 in 2011-12, and 8-12 last season)…Sacramento State's victory over Southern Utah on Saturday also snapped the team's three-game losing streak, which was the longest losing skid since the later stages of the 2011-12 season…the Hornets, who are 3-1 at home this season, will be playing at home for the first time since beating UC Riverside, 69-67, on Dec. 29…dating back to last season, Sacramento State is 13-5 at home, including a 77-71 victory against Portland State on Feb. 9, 2013…the Vikings also snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday by defeating Montana at home in triple overtime (81-78)…Portland State scores at a nice rate (73.4 ppg) and shoots it well from distance (.396), but also gives up a lot of points (72.5 ppg) and allows opponents to shoot .403 from the 3-point stripe…Sacramento State is 11-25 all-time against Portland State, but owns a 10-8 record against the Vikings when playing in Sacramento…like every game the rest of the season, Thursday's contest can be seen live and free on www.WatchBigSky.com…all Hornet home live streams are now provided in High Definition…the game can also be heard over the airwaves on KTKZ 1380 AM The Answer and on the internet at www.hornetsports.com with 17th year play-by-play announcer Steve McElroy calling the game...live stats for the game are available via www.hornetsports.com.
