Cheryl Boyes, the Director of Community Relations and Special Events, was awarded the Unsung Hero Award at the Women of Influence Ceremony on March 14 at Sacramento State.
The event recognized inspiring women on the Sacramento State campus and was organized by a variety of campus departments and leaders. Boyes is a Sacramento native and longtime Hornet supporter. Her father, Cal Boyes, coached baseball for 16 years (1960-75) at Sacramento State, and served three different stints as the Director of Athletics.
She grew up supporting the Hornets and truly bleeds Green and Gold. Cheryl has dedicated her time to providing guests and athletics donors with the upmost hospitality. At every home football game, she coordinates tailgate experiences while making each person feel a part of the Hornet family.
Her event planning experience started in the Hotel Management field and Sacramento State Athletics is fortunate to have her as a member of the department.
“Cheryl is an integral member of our team,” Associate Athletics Director Markus Jennings said. “What she does for our department and University as a whole cannot be measured. Her leadership and selflessness has been invaluable to not only myself, but the entire department.”
Not only does she exceed expectations in her role, she serves as a mentor for women in the Athletics Department. She consistently supports young women early in their professional careers, and many women starting their roles in collegiate athletics value her guidance and life experiences.
Boyes’ dedication and passion for Sacramento State Athletics is infectious. Her hard work and leadership has been instrumental in growing the Hornet Club and Sacramento State Athletics. Congratulations to Cheryl on all her great accomplishments and this well-deserved award.
