    An eventful postseason awards season for Sacramento State came to a close at the STATS PERFORM FCS Awards Banquet on Friday night. During the ceremony, Hornet head coach Troy Taylor was named the Eddie Robinson Award recipient and quarterback Kevin Thomson was one of four finalists for the Walter Payton Award.

    Sacramento State defensive end George Obinna wrapped up All-America week by being named to the second team for the American Football Coaches Association FCS team, it was announced today. The honor is the third for Obinna during the week and the eighth All-America award for the Hornets this season.

    The Sacramento State football was represented by Marshel Martin, Kevin Thomson and George Obinna during the second day of All-America week, it was announced today. Martin was selected to the HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-America first team while Thomson and Obinna were named third team FCS All-Americans by the Associated Press.

    Kevin Thomson and Elijah Dotson were each named to the HERO Sports FCS All-America teams, it was announced today. Thomson was one of two first team quarterbacks while Dotson was selected to the second team as an all-purpose player.

    It did not take long for Troy Taylor to make history at Sacramento State. The first-year head coach was named the winner of the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award on Wednesday after helping the Hornets win nine games in the regular season, a share of the Big Sky Conference title and a berth in to the FCS playoffs — all firsts for the program.

    The Sacramento State football team will continue its historic season when it hosts Austin Peay in the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. The game will mark the first playoff appearance for the Hornets at the FCS level and the first by a Hornet football team since advancing to the semifinals of the 1988 NCAA Div. II playoffs.

    The Sacramento State football team was voted fourth in the both the STATS FCS media poll and the AFCA FCS coaches poll. The rankings are the highest a Hornet team has been in either poll in the school's Div. I era. Sacramento State has now been ranked for six consecutive weeks, including the last five in the top 25.

    A punishing ground game and a stellar performance by the defense led No. 6 Sacramento State to a 31-7 win at Idaho on Saturday. With the win, the Hornets improved to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the Big Sky Conference. The team will have the chance to play for at least a share of the Big Sky title next week in the Causeway Classic.
