  • FOOTBALL CRACKS FCS TOP 25 IN MEDIA AND COACHES POLLS

    After defeating a pair of ranked teams and starting Big Sky Conference play with two wins, the Sacramento State football team has captured the attention of the national voters as the Hornets debuted in the STATS FCS and AFCA Coaches top 25 polls, it was announced today. The Hornets earned 1,677 points to and were voted 15th in the STATS poll. The team was voted 17th in the AFCA Coaches poll after garnering 221 points.
  • KEVIN THOMSON NAMED BIG SKY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

    Sacramento State quarterback Kevin Thomson was named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in the team’s 34-21 win at then-No. 6 Montana State last Saturday. The honor is the first for Thomson this season and the second of his career.

    The Sacramento State football team will look to continue its hot start to the 2019 season as the team travels to No. 6 Montana State for a Saturday afternoon game at Bobcat Stadium. The game will kickoff at 1:07 p.m. PT and will be the first contest that the Hornets will play in the afternoon this season. Despite playing in the sunshine, the game will be cool with the high expected to be in the mid-40s.
  • OFFENSE, DEFENSE LIGHT UP THE SCOREBOARD IN 48-27 WIN OVER NO. 22 EASTERN WASHINGTON

    The Sacramento State defense scored two touchdowns and had seven sacks and the offense added a 300-yard passer, 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver as the Hornets defeated #22 Eastern Washington, 48-27, on Saturday night at Hornet Stadium.

    After a well-deserved week off, the Sacramento State football team will start its 2019 Big Sky Conference schedule by hosting Eastern Washington on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Hornet Stadium. The game will kick off at 6:05 p.m. and is being marketed as a “blackout” with the Hornets wearing black uniforms and fans encouraged to wear black as well. Saturday will also be Kids Day presented by Chick-Fil-A. All kids age 12 and under will receive complimentary admission.

  • FOOTBALL TAKES FRESNO STATE TO THE LIMIT IN FINAL NON-CONFERENCE GAME

    The Sacramento State football team drew even with Fresno State early in the fourth quarter but the Bulldogs pulled away with two late touchdowns for a 34-20 victory on Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium. The game marked the second time this season that the Hornets have put a scare into a Football Bowl Subdivision team as the team fell at Arizona State, 19-7, two weeks ago.

    Sacramento State defensive tackle Dariyn Choates was selected as the ROOT Sports Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the first for Choates during his career and he became the first Hornet defensive lineman to earn the award since Zach Nash in 2010.

    Kevin Thomson threw for a career high 361 yards and matched his career best with five touchdown passes and the Sacramento State defense shut out Northern Colorado as the Hornets downed the Bears, 50-0, on Saturday night at Hornet Stadium.

The game against the Bears will start at 6 p.m. and will be a non-conference contest despite the two teams both being members of the Big Sky.

    The 2019 Sacramento State football team will get under way on Saturday, Aug. 31, when it welcomes Southern Oregon to Hornet Stadium. The game against the Raiders will start at 6:05 p.m. and will also mark the start of the Troy Taylor era. Taylor became the 11th head coach in Hornet history when he was named to the post on Dec. 18, 2018.

From there, the focus of the team will be on the start of classes on Monday, the freshmen moving into their dorms, and all eyes will be on Southern Oregon for the season opener on Saturday, Aug. 31.

    One of the biggest additions to the 2019 Sacramento State program may have come from within the team. Quarterback Kevin Thomson was granted a nearly unheard of two additional seasons of eligibility by the NCAA meaning the two-year starter will return for his second junior season this fall.
