SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State senior wide receiver DeAndre Carter was named to The Sports Network's Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-America third team, it was announced today.
The Sports Network selected three wide receivers for each of its three preseason All-America teams. The company also oversees the Walter Payton, Buck Buchanan, Eddie Robinson and Jerry Rice awards which are handed out following the year to the top FCS players.
Carter was a first team all-Big Sky Conference selection following the 2013 season after setting career high with 64 receptions, 934 yards and 15 total touchdowns. His 14 receiving touchdowns tied the school single-season record. Carter caught a pass in all 11 games in which he played, including 12 against Southern Oregon and Montana. After being held out of the end zone against San Jose State and Arizona State, Carter set the school record with five receiving touchdowns against Southern Oregon. From that point, he had at least one touchdown in seven of the next eight games.
The Big Sky was represented by 13 players on The Sports Network teams. That total trailed only the 15 from the Colonial Athletic Association.
Along with the honor from The Sports Network, Carter was also named second team preseason All-American by Beyond Sports Network on Tuesday. Carter and Hornet quarterback Garrett Safron were also placed on the preseason all-Big Sky team by BSN.
