Four years ago the UC Davis and Sacramento State Army ROTC programs started their own version of the "Causeway Classic" - a flag football game against each other hours before the crosstown rivalry between the Aggies' and Hornets' football game itself.

CARTER NAMED FINALIST FOR THE WALTER PAYTON AWARD
The Sports Network named DeAndre Carter a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, it was announced today. The award is presented annually to the top offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision.

61st CAUSEWAY CLASSIC UP NEXT FOR FOOTBALL
The Sacramento State football team will look to end its season with three consecutive victories when it makes the short trip to UC Davis for the 61st Causeway Classic on Saturday. The game will kickoff at 1 p.m. from Aggie Stadium.

CARTER NAMED BIG SKY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DeAndre Carter was named the ROOT Sports Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced today. The award comes a week after the senior earned FCS national and Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors.

FOOTBALL STORMS BACK FOR 48-41 WIN OVER PORTLAND STATE
DeAndre Carter’s 65-yard punt return for a touchdown completed Sacramento State’s fourth-quarter comeback in a 48-41 win over Portland State on Saturday night in the final home game of the season at Hornet Stadium.

FOOTBALL SENIOR DAY THIS SATURDAY AGAINST PORTLAND STATE
The Sacramento State football team will play its final home game of the 2014 season when it welcomes Portland State to Hornet Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. Prior to the start of the game against the Vikings, the team will honor its 18 seniors who will be playing their last game at home.

CARTER NAMED FCS NATIONAL AND BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DeAndre Carter was selected as the co-FCS Offensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network and the ROOT Sports Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced today. The honors are the first for Carter this season.

Sacramento State will start its final homestand of the season when it welcomes Southern Utah for a Big Sky Conference football game on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. The game, which is the first of two consecutive home games for the team, will be the first home day game.

The Sacramento State football team outgained No. 12 Montana and had over nine minutes more of possession but the Hornets could not overcome troubles in the red zone and the Grizzlies’ quick strike offense in a 31-13 loss on Saturday at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

WELL-RESTED FOOTBALL PLAY AT NO. 12 MONTANA ON SATURDAY
With its one off week in the books, the Sacramento State football team will start its final four games of the regular season at Montana on Saturday, Nov. 1. The game against the 12th-ranked Grizzlies will kickoff at 11 a.m. PDT from the always raucous Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

FOOTBALL SEES CAL POLY PULL AWAY IN SECOND HALF
Quarterback Garrett Safron and receiver DeAndre Carter each cemented their names into the Sacramento State record book on Saturday night, but it was Cal Poly who earned a 56-27 victory in front of a season-high home crowd of 10,934 at Hornet Stadium.

With its first Big Sky Conference victory secured, the Sacramento State football team returns home to face Cal Poly on Saturday, Oct. 18, as part of the University’s Homecoming. The game against Mustangs will begin at 6:05 p.m. at Hornet Stadium.

FOOTBALL EARNS FIRST BIG SKY WIN, DOWNS UNC 43-38
For the second consecutive week, the Sacramento State football team posted incredible offensive numbers but was forced to wait until the final moments to determine the outcome of the game. On Saturday, the Hornets prevailed after retaining possession on an onsides kick attempt for a 43-38 victory.

Sacramento State had its best offensive game in school history but the Hornets could not make a final stand as Montana State scored with four seconds left to claim a 59-56 victory at Hornet Stadium on Saturday night.

Sacramento State posted 532 yards of total offense and received career days from Nnamdi Agude and DeAndre Carter but the team was unable to control Idaho State’s offensive attack in a 44-24 loss on Saturday at Holt Arena.

Sacramento State kicker Brad Cornish was named the national and Big Sky ROOT Sports Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the first for Cornish during his career.

The Sacramento State football team jumped to a 20-0 lead, saw it shrink to six points in the second half, and then pulled away for a 42-31 win over Weber State on Saturday night at Hornet Stadium.

FOOTBALL WELCOMES WEBER STATE FOR HOME OPENER
After facing a first-year FCS program in its opening game and a Pac-12 foe in its second, the Sacramento State football team will finally see a familiar face when it hosts Weber State on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Hornet Stadium (6:05 p.m.). While the Wildcats are a longtime member of the Big Sky Conference, this week’s game will not count towards the league standings for either team.

Garrett Safron completed 17-of-25 passes for 251 yards and five touchdowns and Darnell Sankey led the team with 10 tackles and also returned an interception for a touchdown to lead Sacramento State to a 49-13 win at Incarnate Word on Saturday night at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

Sacramento State head football coach Jody Sears officially completed his coaching staff with the additions of Samuel Lawanson and James Montgomery, it was announced today. Lawanson will serve as the Hornets' running backs coach while Montgomery will be an offensive assistant. Jason Pollak, who was the offensive assistant in 2013, was elevated to wide receivers coach.
