FOOTBALL UNVEILS 2014 SIGNING CLASS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State football team announced the signing of 15 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent today. The group joins seven midyear transfers who are curretnly enrolled at the University and will participate in spring drills.

The group is comprised of 14 defensive players and nine on the offensive side of the ball. On defense, the Hornets brought in seven defensive backs, four defensive linemen and two linebackers. Included in that group are local standouts Tyler Meteer (Del Oro HS), Joey Banks (Franklin HS), Printess Johnson and Ernest Jenkins (both of Burbank). Meteer and Banks were both all-state selections last season and all four were all-conference selections. Also new to the unit is defensive tackle Brandon Tuliaupupu who transferred from UCLA and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

On offense, the Hornets signed four linemen, four receivers and a running back.

Sacramento State returns the majority of its starters on offense, including eight starters on offense and seven on defense from last season. The team will begin its spring practice in March.

COLIN CHRISTIAN

  • Played in just one game for Santa Barbara City last season before breaking his ankle.
• As a freshman, he tallied 80 tackles which ranked second on the team.
• As a senior at Truckee HS, he rushed for 1,034 yards and 11 touchdowns and recorded 82 tackles on defense.

MYLES COLEMAN
Safety | 6-0 | 190 | Jr. | Salinas, Calif. | Salinas HS | Hartnell JC
  • Recorded 43 tackles in 2013 for Hartnell JC.
• Had at least one tackle in every game in which he played including a season high eight at Modesto.
• Graduated from Salinas HS where he rushed for 435 yards and five touchdowns and made 36 tackles as a senior.
• Is the nephew of former Hornet Dannie Walker.

DOMINIC COULTER
Wide Receiver | 6-2 | 225 | Jr. | Tustin, Calif. | Tustin HS | Nevada
  • Attended Nevada for three season, redshirting in 2011 before playing in 2012 and 2013.
• Did not record statistics during his time with the Wolf Pack.
• Prepped at Tustin HS where he caught 23 passes for 437 yards and four touchdowns.

JAMES FERRARO
Defensive Back | 5-11 | 180 | So. | Fullerton, Calif. | Servite HS | Golden West JC
  • Played one season at Golden West JC in Huntington Beach, Calif.
• Appeared in all 11 games and finished the season with 26 tackles and an interception.
• Returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown at Grossmont JC.
• Named second team all-Southern Conference in 2013.
• Was a second team all-Trinity League selection as a senior at Servite HS.

MORGAN NEVIN
Linebacker | 6-1 | 230 | Jr. | Truckee, Calif. | Truckee HS | Santa Barbara City JC
  • Named first team all-Pacific Conference in 2012 and 2013. Also earned all-region honors as a freshman.
• Led the state with 15.4 tackles per game as a sophomore. Finished the season with 139 total tackles. That total included 11.5 for loss and 6.5 sacks.
• As a freshman, he ranked third in the state and led Southern California with 11.8 tackles per game. Tallied 118 tackles that season with 15 TFLs and 2.0 sacks.
• Set the SBCC record with 28 tackles against Santa Monica JC.
• Was a two-time team Defensive MVP.
• Redshirted at SMU in 2011.

BRANDON TULIAUPUPU
 Defensive Line | 6-1 | 302 | Jr. | LaVerne, Calif. | Clarmeont HS | UCLA
  • Transferred to the Hornets from UCLA at the start of the semester and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
• Played in five games in 2012 for the Bruins where he was credited with three tackles as a defensive lineman.
• At Claremont HS, he was a three-star recruit from Rivals and Scout, rated among the top 100 players in the state and was the 52nd ranked defensive tackle in the country.

ANTHONY VIVEIROS
Offensive Line | 6-1 | 275 | Jr. | Castro Valley, Calif. | Castro Valley HS | Laney JC
  • Named first team all-Golden Gate Conference as a sophomore.
• Helped the team an 8-3 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the Golden Gate Conference in 2013.
• Team led the league 252.8 rushing yards per game and allowed just 16 sacks during the year.
• Was the Hayward Area Athletic League Lineman of the Year and first team selection as a senior at Castro Valley HS.

JOEY BANKS
Nickelback | 5-10 | 195 | Fr. | Elk Grove, Calif. | Franklin HS
  • Was a two-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com.
• Named second team Div. I all-state, first team all-Northern California and first team all-Sac-Joaquin Section as a senior.
• Was also the Delta Valley League MVP that same season and was a member of the Sacramento Bee all-Metro team.
• Starred on both sides of the ball for the Wildcats where he recorded 155 total tackles, including 10.5 sacks, rushed for 571 yards and eight touchdowns, caught four passes for 32 yards and averaged 21.92 yards per kick return.

AUSTIN CLARK
Defensive Back | 6-0 | 190 | Fr. | Cottonwood, Calif. | West Valley HS
  • Set the Northern Section record as a senior with 2,420 rushing yard and 37 total touchdowns.
• Those stats helped him earn second team all-NorCal and first team all-area and all-Northern League honors.
• Was a three-year varsity starter who earned all-league accolades each season.
• In 2013, he helped guide West Valley to a 12-1 overall record and a Northern Section title and tallied 125 tackles as a safety.

IVAN ESPIRITU
Offensive Line | 6-3 | 275 | Fr. | Reedley, Calif. | Reedley HS
  • Played on both the offensive and defensive lines for the Pirates.
• Named honorable mention all-area by the Fresno Bee.
• Also earned first team all-North Yosemite League accolades as a center.
• Defensively, he recorded 51 total tackles with 5.0 sacks.
• As a junior, he had 78 tackles with a sack.

ISIAH HENNIE
 Wide Receiver | 5-7 | 150 | Fr. | San Diego, Calif. | San Marcos HS
  • An all-purpose standout who was named second team all-state for Div. II, all-San Diego Section and the Valley League Offensive Player of the Year in 2013.
• Did a little of everything for the Knights as a senior with 2,264 all-purpose yards and 17 touchdowns.
• Caught 102 passes for 1,521 yards and nine touchdowns and averaged 14.91 yards per reception.
• Also rushed for 314 yards and six touchdowns and returned kicks and punts.

ERNEST JENKINS
Defensive Back | 6-1 | 190 | Fr. | Sacramento, Calif. | Burbank HS
  • Played quarterback for the Titans where he was an first team all-Metro League selection as a senior.
• Led Burbank to a 9-3 overall mark and an undefeated league record.
• During his senior season, he threw for 1,060 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 1,372 yards and 21 TDs.
• Carried the ball 129 times and had six games with at least 100 yards and also had at least one touchdown in all 12 games.

JABARRI JOHNSON
Wide Receiver | 6-3 | 185 | Fr. | Elk Grove, Calif. | Franklin HS
  • Was named first team all-Delta Valley League as a senior after catching 38 passes for 692 yards and 10 touchdowns.
• Caught at least one touchdown in each of the first seven games and had three games with over 100 receiving yards including a season high 118  against Tracy.
• Did not play football until his senior season of high school.

PRINTESS JOHNSON

  • Was named first team all-Metro League as a senior.
• Played on the offensive and defensive lines for the Titans.
• Recorded 90 tackles as a senior on defense.
• Had 15 tackles in a playoff game against Elk Grove for his season high.

TYLER METEER
 Linebacker | 6-3 | 205 | Fr. | Loomis, Calif. | Del Oro HS
  • A two-star recruit by Rivals.com.
• Earned first team all-state Div. I, first team all-NorCal and was the Sac-Joaquin Section, Sacramento Bee and Sierra Foothill League Defensive Player of the Year in 2013.
• Helped lead Del Oro to a 13-3 overall record, a Sac-Joaquin Section championship and a berth in the state title game.
• Recorded 126 total tackles, including six sacks as a senior and also caught 71 passes for 930 yards and nine TDs as a tight end.

RUBEN MEZA

  • A two-star recruit by Rivals.com.
• Was a three-year varsity player who made 30 consecutive starts  on the offensive line.
• Earned first team all-Valley honors following his senior year and was an honorable mention selection as a junior.
• Was a first team all-Southwestern League selection in 2013 after earning second team honors in 2012 and honorable mention in 2011.
• Was a two-year team captain and earned the team's Offensive Player of the Year award in 2013.

  • Was a two-star junior college recruit who most recently played at Mt. San Antonio JC where he had 60 tackles, including 4.5 sacks, as a sophomore in 2012.
• Had eight stops against Cerritos, LA Harbor and Saddleback for his season high and was credited with two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
• While at South Hills HS he recorded 39 tackles with three sacks as a senior.

GEORGE OBINNA
Defensive Line | 6-2 | 215 | Fr. | Tracy, Calif. | Tracy HS
  • Earned first team all-San Joaquin Athletic Association honors as a senior.
• Recorded 34 tackles with nine sacks in 2013.
• Helped the team to a 10-2 overall record and 5-0 SJAA record to win the league title.
• Also played on the offensive line for the Bulldogs.

JAELIN RATLIFF
Wide Receiver | 6-0 | 165 | Fr. | Stockton, Calif. | St. Mary's HS
  • A three-star recruit by ESPN and a two-star by Rivals.com and Scout.com.
• Named first team all-area by the Stockton Record and first team all-Tri-City Athletic League as a senior.
• Played wide receiver and cornerback for the Rams where he caught 37 passes for 615 yards and nine touchdowns and rushed for 116 yards and a score.
• On defense, he recorded 27 total tackles and intercepted two passes.

JEREMIAH REDDICK
Running Back | 6-0 | 200 | Fr. | Bakersfield, Calif. | Bakersfield HS
  • Helped lead Bakersfield  to a Div. I state championship as a senior.
• Was selected to the all-area first team on defense by the Bakersfield Californian as a senior and was a second team selection as a utility player following his junior year.
• In 2013, he rushed for 623 yards and scored nine touchdowns.
• On defense he played linebacker and on the defensive line during his high school career.

TAMAS STEWART
Defensive Back | 6-0 | 185 | Fr. | Rialto, Calif. | Carter HS
  • A three-year varsity player who was a first team all-San Andreas League selection in 2013.
• Rushed for 508 yards and four touchdowns and also caught four passes for 84 yards during his senior season.
• Best game came against Rialto where he had 22 carries for 191 yards and two TDs.
• Also played on defense where made 43 tackles as a member of the secondary.

  • A two-time all-North Bay League selection as an offensive lineman.
• Was a two-year starter for the Jaguars at tackle.
• Academically, he has maintained a 4.0 gpa throughout his high school career.
