CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sacramento State quarterback Garrett Safron, running back Ezekiel Graham and punter Justin Weldon were each named to the 2013 College Football Performance Awards watch lists.
Safron was one of 28 Football Championship Subdivision quarterbacks on the list. As a sophomore, he threw for 2,540 yards with 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. In 11 starts, he completed 64.2 percent (246-383) of his passes and also rushed for 377 yards.
Graham was placed on the all-purpose watch list and is one of the dual threats in the FCS. During his first season with the Hornets, Graham rushed for a team-high 861 yards with five touchdowns and also hauled in 40 receptions for 406 yards and two scores. His receptions and receiving yards placed him second on the team.
Weldon took over the punting duties in the third week of the season and averaged 42.8 yards per punt. He placed seven punts inside the 20-yard line and had a kick of at least 50 yards in six games. His 68-yarder at Idaho State was the fifth-longest in school history.
The CFPA will select award winners for each category following the 2013 season. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objecting scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
The Hornets begin the 2013 season on Thursday, Aug. 29, at San Jose State. The team's first home game will come on Saturday, Sept. 14, against Southern Oregon.
