Osagie Odiase Named Big SKy Root Sports Defensive Player of the Week

OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State junior Osagie Odiase was selected as the Big Sky ROOT SPORTS Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the first for Odiase during his career.

In the Hornets' 28-17 win over Northern Colorado, Odiase led the team with a career high 11 tackles, including a tackle-for-loss. The cornerback also played a part in two of Sacramento State's four turnovers, recovering a fumble in the first quarter and intercepting a pass in the third. His fumble recovery directly led to the Hornets' opening touchdown of the game. The Santa Fe Springs, Calif., native also had three pass breakups against the Bears.

Cal Poly running back Deonte Williams and Montana State wide receiver Tanner Bleskin shared the Big Sky ROOT SPORTS Offensive Player of the Week Award. Williams rushed for 187 yards in the Mustangs' win at Wyoming while Bleskin had 10 catches for 180 yards and TD in a victory over Stephen F. Austin.

Cal Poly kicker/punter Bobby Zalud earned the special teams award. Zalud made a 51-yard field goal and had a 62-yard punt in the 24-22 win at Wyoming.

Sacramento State will open Big Sky play on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 6:05 p.m. against North Dakota. Both teams enter the game with a 2-1 overall record.
