BREAK OUT THE BROOMS Sacramento State swept the visiting CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners this past weekend at John Smith Field. The sweep is the Hornets' third this season and their first of a conference opponent since sweeping Chicago State in April of last season, also at the John.
FREE BASEBALL Sacramento State went to extra innings for just the second time this season on Friday night before winning in 10 innings against CSU Bakersfield. The Hornets are 2-0 in their two extra-inning games this season. Last year, the Hornets were 2-4 in six extra-inning games.
WALK (OFF) THIS WAY Sacramento State collected its third and fourth walk-off wins of the season this weekend against CSU Bakersfield. Three of those four wins this season have come against WAC opponents.

Sacramento State swept the visiting CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners in a three-game weekend series at John Smith Field. The Hornets had two walk-off wins over the course of the three-game series.
On Friday, the Hornets walked things off in the 10th inning thanks to a Dawsen Bacho RBI-base hit, giving the Hornets a 4-3 win in extras. Saturday's game ended much closer than it started, as the Hornets won 10-7 after leading 9-0. It was another walk-off on Sunday as Sacramento State's Steven Moretto came up with a ninth-inning, bases-loaded base hit to lift the Hornets, 5-4.
Matt Smith: Hitter of the Week
Junior outfielder Matt Smith was named the WAC's Hitter of the Week for last week's four game performance. Smith hit .643 with a .737 OBP and a ridiculous 2.032 OPS, leading the Hornets to a three-game sweep of the visiting CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners. Smith hit two home runs in the three-game weekend series and finished a single shy of the cycle in Friday's 10-7 win.
Smith leads the Hornets with a .289 batting average and a .454 slugging percentage.
Tanner Dalton: Pitcher of The Week
Senior reliever Tanner Dalton was named the WAC's Pitcher of the Week for his performance in four games last week. Appearing in each of Sacramento State's four games last week, Dalton recorded two wins and a save while posting a 1.80 ERA and a .188 batting average against.
In last weekend's conference series against CSU Bakersfield, Dalton earned the win in both Friday's and Sunday's walk-offs while picking up the save in Saturday's 10-7 win.
For the season, Dalton's three saves are tops on the squad while his 2.00 ERA is second best on the team.
Smith Turning A Corner
After opening the season with a seven-game hit streak and hitting as high as .385, junior Matt Smith struggled to a .176 batting average on March 26 vs. Cal. Since then, Smith has been unstoppable, hitting .552 with a .629 OBP and a 1.595 OPS in seven games. The outfielder has four doubles, a triple, two home runs, 11 RBIs, and 11 runs scored in that time.
Moretto On a Steak
Sophomore Steven Moretto has hit safely in nine straight games, a new career-best for the third baseman and the team's longest streak this season. Moretto's previous long was an eight-game streak, set in his first eight games as a Hornet in 2018.
