Leading Off

IT'S A WALK-OFF Sacramento State's 2-1 walk-off win over North Dakota State Sunday was its first and the WAC's first of the season. The Hornets won three games in walk-off fashion last season, including a 15-inning, 4-3 win against New Mexico State in the 2018 WAC Tournament.

STARTER'S ERA The Hornets' starters combined to allow just four earned runs in 18.0 innings of work over opening weekend, good for a 2.00 ERA. Scott Randall led the way with six scoreless innings Sunday.

ROBERTS K's 13 Austin Roberts struck out a career-high 13 North Dakota State hitters in game two of Sunday's doubleheader, finishing just one shy of tying the program record (14, Parker Brahms, twice). Roberts struck out the side twice and allowed just one run in seven innings of work in the win.

By the Numbers

1: Walk-off hit for Nick Iwasa, whose RBI pinch-hit single was his first hit in his first career at bat.

10: Walks drawn by the Hornets over the weekend. They were also hit by a pitch four times.

18: Strikeouts for Hornets pitchers in game two of Sunday's doubleheader, tied for most in a game.

About Last Series

After dropping their season opener, 9-1, this past Saturday night against the visiting North Dakota State Bison, the Hornets rallied back to take both ends of a doubleheader Sunday at John Smith Field to win or split their sixth straight season-opening series.

Nick Iwasa lifted Sacramento State to their first win of the season, delivering a walk-off single to clinch game one of Sunday's doubleheader, 2-1. The hits kept on coming for the Hornets as they picked up 14 in game two, rolling to an 8-3 win. Austin Roberts struck out a career-high 13 in the win.

Season Openers

With the series win this past weekend, Sacramento State has now won or split six straight season-opening series dating back to the 2014 season. During that stretch, they have won series against Utah (2015), Auburn (2016), Washington State (2017), and North Dakota State (2018) while splitting with Utah (2014) and Washington (2018).

Walk-Off Wins

Sacramento State's 2-1 walk-off win over North Dakota State Sunday was its first and the WAC's first of the season. The Hornets won three games in walk-off fashion last season, including a 15-inning, 4-3 win against New Mexico State in the 2018 WAC Tournament.

Doubleheader Sweep

Sacramento State won both ends of their Sunday doubleheader against North Dakota State to win the series. The Hornets have one more regularly scheduled doubleheader later this season when they host Towson on March 8-10.

Last season, Sacramento State played two doubleheaders, splitting at Utah and winning both at home against Chicago State.

Roberts Career K's

Austin Roberts struck out a career-high 13 on Sunday, shattering his previous mark of seven (4/15/18 vs. Northern Colorado).

His 13 strikeouts Sunday tied for the second most in a game in Hornets program history, matching Justin Dillon (2017) and Mike Eby (1995). Roberts' teammate Parker Brahms holds the single game record with 14 strikeouts.
