SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State outfielder James Outman was named the Summer Collegiate Player of the Year by Perfect Game, it was announced today. Outman followed his breakout season with the Hornets by nearly winning the triple crown in the Cal Ripken League.

Outman played for the Bethesda Big Train and was named the Cal Ripken League MVP after hitting .341 with nine home runs, 36 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 37 regular season games. Those numbers helped lead Bethesda to the league title.

For the Hornets in 2017, Outman led Sacramento State with 16 doubles and 53 RBI and was tied for the team lead with 11 home runs while playing in 60 of the team's 61 games.

Outman is the latest Hornet to shine for the Big Train. In 2015, Chris Lewis was named the Cal Ripken League MVP and Vinny Esposito claimed the honor last year.
