SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The 2017 Sacramento State baseball season begins at 6 p.m. Friday vs. Washington State with the first of 21 night games on campus in the first full season under the lights at John Smith Field.
The Hornets and Cougars will play three night games, all at 6 p.m., in the season opening series on Friday, Saturday, and Monday with a 2 p.m. start on Sunday. Sacramento State has 31 total home games this season and Washington State is the first of three Power 5 schools the Hornets will host this season, with series against Penn State and Minnesota to be played in March.

The Hornets return seven starting position players and eight pitchers this season with 20 total returners and 16 newcomers. Sacramento State has won at least 30 games in five straight seasons and has the seventh most wins among 24 Div. I teams in the state of California over the last five seasons, more than schools including Stanford, Cal, USC, Pepperdine, Long Beach State, and rival UC Davis.
