DENVER – For the second consecutive week a Sacramento State player has been named WAC Hitter of the Week as junior Rhys Hoskins took the honor after hitting .563 with three homers and 12 RBIs over four games last week. Senior David Del Grande had earned the award the previous week.
Hoskins, a junior first baseman from Sacramento (Jesuit HS), hit .563 (9-for-16) on the week with six runs, 12 RBIs, three doubles, three home runs and four walks to lead the Hornets to a perfect 4-0 record. Hoskins made only seven outs in 20 trips to the plate for a .650 on-base percentage while recording a 1.313 slugging percentage.
Hoskins led the Hornets to a 3-0 series road sweep at New Mexico State as he went 8-for-12 at the plate with 12 RBIs. He had three hits and three RBIs on Friday, had three hits (including two home runs) and six RBIs on Saturday, and had two hits with one home run and three RBIs on Sunday. In six WAC games this season, Hoskins is batting .585 with four home runs and 16 RBIs.
The WAC-leading Hornets are home for four games this week, facing San Francisco on Tuesday night at Raley Field and hosting a three-game WAC series against Seattle U over the weekend at John Smith Field.
