    Sacramento State baseball head coach Reggie Christiansen has agreed to a contract extension and a deal that will keep him in the Hornet program through the 2019 season, Sacramento State Interim Athletics Director Bill Macriss announced on Friday.

    The WAC Champion Sacramento State baseball team (39-22) will play in its first NCAA Regional as a Div. I program starting at 6 p.m. Friday in San Luis Obispo. Sacramento State will play the host and top seed in the region Cal Poly (45-10) in its first game while the other two teams in the region, Arizona State (33-22) and Pepperdine (39-16), will open the regional on Friday at 1 p.m.

    Needing to win a pair of games on Saturday to force a winner-take-all title game on Sunday, the Hornets opened the day with a 3-1 win over Bakersfield and came back just a couple of hours later to defeat Utah Valley 10-3 to advance to a championship game rematch against Utah Valley on Sunday.

The Hornets stay alive for the WAC title while New Mexico State saw its season come to a close after a surprising run in the tournament.

Junior first baseman Rhys Hoskins was named Player of the Year, freshman left handed pitcher Sam Long is Freshman of the Year, and, for the second time in the last three seasons, Reggie Christiansen was named Coach of the Year.
