BASEBALL DROPS FIRST GAME OF SERIES AT DALLAS BAPTIST
DALLAS — Dallas Baptist scored five runs in the second inning and recorded a 10-0 win over Sacramento State in a run-ruled shortened seven inning game on Thursday at Horner Field.
The Patriots recorded 11 hits and improved to 15-11 overall and 3-1 in Western Athletic Conference play. Sacramento State dropped its third straight game and fell to 13-12 overall and 1-3 in conference games.
DBU did most of its damage in the second inning, scoring five runs on six hits while sending 10 batters to the plate. Three of the six hits in the inning were doubles while the other runs scored on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.
The Patriots' lead extended to 8-0 the following inning on a run-scoring single from Austin Listi and a two-run double by RJ Talamantes.
Duncan McAlpine hit his WAC leading seventh home run in the fourth inning to make the score 9-0 before a wild pitch in the sixth inning accounted for the final run.
Jake Johansen (4-2) threw all seven innings for DBU, allowing five hits without a walk while striking out three. Ty Nichols dropped to 3-3 after taking the loss. Nichols lasted 2.0 innings and surrendered five runs, six hits with a walk and strikeout.
Rhys Hoskins led the Hornet offense with a pair of hits.
The second game of the series will be on Friday at 12 p.m. PDT.
