Associate Athletics Director of External Affairs

California State University, Sacramento is seeking applications for the position of Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. California State University, Sacramento, the Capital University, is in the heart of Northern California, one of the most beautiful, diverse and rapidly growing areas in the country.    The 300-acre campus, located just five miles from the State Capitol, is situated along the American River parkway that offers miles of trails and recreational access to the city’s two rivers, Folsom Lake and the historic Sacramento riverfront. Growth in the region has provided significant opportunities for faculty research and engagement with civic and business organizations as well as extensive research and internship opportunities for the University’s more than 28,500 students. The University, where quality teaching is a top priority, offers instruction leading toward the bachelor’s degree in 60 disciplines, the master’s degree in 40 disciplines, one joint doctoral degree in public history, and houses numerous research and community service centers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position works closely with the AD to advance the vision and mission of the department of Athletics; develops and implements programs for fund raising in order to generate private contributions to pay for scholarships for student- athletes, operation expenses for the division and special capital projects; serve as Exec. Dir. of The Hornet Club; remains current and ensures compliance with the university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations; make efficient face-to-face visits per month designed to move prospects toward making philanthropic commitment to the university; makes personal gift solicitations, assist with planning any capital fund raising; maintain contacts; recruits and monitors volunteers; work with Sac State Alumni Assoc.; oversees all expenditures of the Development Office; attend intercollegiate athletic completion, special events and postseason competition; supervise sports assigned; supervise the marketing office and the ticket office as it pertains to fundraising and other duties as assigned by the AD.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred. Minimum two years of successful experience in the collegiate and/or corporate marketing. Previous experience in overseeing sport programs preferred. Minimum of two years of successful fundraising for a Division I Athletic program and oversees all expenditures, preparing financial reports for presentation to the Athletic Director. Have experience in NCAA Division I Athletic office with the team building concept within the area of Athletic Development or External Affairs. Have the ability to promote the athletic program effectively. Establish positive relationships with boosters, alumni, students, faculty and staff. Possess skills in fundraising, communication, supervision, management and organization necessary. Must be willing to work weekends and evenings and have a high level of creativity, strong initiative and self-motivation.

ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: April, 2014

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $85,000

This is a full-time position defined in the Management Personnel Plan of the California State University. It is excluded from the collective bargaining process and does not gain permanent status. This position is also exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials.
