DENVER — Fourteen Sacramento State student-athletes earned Western Athletic Conference all-academic honors during the 2012-13 season. The group is comprised of four baseball players and 10 gymnasts. Those two sports are the only Sacramento State teams which compete in the WAC.

To be named to the conference's all-academic team, a student-athlete must compete in at least 50 percent of his/her team events and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00.

Among the baseball players who were honored for Sacramento State were Brennan Leitao and Justin Higley. Leitao was a first team all-conference selection as a starting pitcher while Higley was drafted by the Oakland Athletics following the season.

For the gymnastics team, the honorees included three NCAA qualifiers (Kailey Hansen, Kalliah McCartney, Nicole Meiller) as well as conference beam champion Cayla Beutler.

As a team, gymnastics had 12 student-athletes post a 3.50 gpa or better during the spring semester, including three with a perfect 4.00.
