STUDENT-ATHLETES TAKE PART IN READ ACROSS AMERICA

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Select Sacramento State student-athletes participated in the annual Read Across America Day on February 28. The volunteers read stories and talked about the importance of reading at the event which coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

Five Hornet athletes volunteered at Stonegate Elementary School in West Sacramento and read to children in grades 1-3. The volunteers were Jake Johnson and Cameron Rappleye of men's golf, Bryan Oliver and Almog Stikowski of men's soccer and Doyin Sule of football. Other volunteers at the school included members of the West Sacramento police and fire departments as well as West Sacramento mayor and Sacramento State alumnus Christopher Cabaldon.

The event is just one of several throughout each school year where Hornet student-athletes volunteer their time at community service events.
